Can someone please give me an analysis of chapter 1 in "A handful of dust" by Evelyn Waugh. Thank you so much for your help because i need to do a presentation on it.

I think this book is a great comment on the decay of society, and its appearance as, effectively a wasteland where nothing matters as religion and traditions have been superceded.

Very humorous, dark humor. I have only read Scoop (pertaining to journalism) and The Loved One (pertaining to the funeral business) so far, both I highly recommend.

The last chapter of "A Handful of Dust" is wonderfully chilling, dark, and humorous. "The Loved One" is a terrific indictment of the funeral industry. The "Sword of Honor" trilogy and "Bridehead Revisited" are superb.

Though overshadowed by his younger brother, Alec Waugh's novels offer interesting glimpses into the English upper middle class before W W II, and Evelyn's grandson, Auberon, made quite a name for himself as a novelist, journalist and social critic. Auberon's son has just published the story of his family.

Thanks for the above comments. I've largely read Waugh's
Travel writings, which I find witty and great fun to read.
Great writer. I think I'd like to try "A Handful of Dust."
Thanks,
Gigi
