What is Wally's new book about? Is it fiction?

>>By jennsummer   (Saturday, 25 Jan 2003 12:57)

Which book are you talking about? The not yet released one - Couldn't Keep It To Myself: Testimonies . . . ?

>>By wynot   (Saturday, 25 Jan 2003 12:57)

Yes, the one that is due out in March. I'm trying to find out what it's about and am having no luck.

>>By jennsummer   (Saturday, 25 Jan 2003 12:57)

Actually, the publication date is January 30th (firm). I know all the details and would be more than happy to fill you in, but I'll need to do it later (possibly tonight). :0)

About the new book -- sorry fiction fans, but this one is an anthology, a collection of personal experience narratives written by a group of women (who are now or have been incarcerated) that he has been teaching for the past several years.

I believe after people read this book, they will better understand the deep sense of humanity that drives Wally (so obviously) when he writes fiction.

Although the book is selling (advance orders) through many bookseller sites, only a few offer more than the title. You can find a brief description of the book at <Walmart.com>. Click onto "books," and then type in "Wally Lamb."

I hope this helps and that you will consider reading the anthology. I don't think you'll be disappointed, as I know you will "hear" Wally's voice loud and clear -- not the voice of fiction, but the voice he speaks through when addressing the real world around him.

Fiction or not, I can't wait!

Hey "Wally's #1 fan,

Check this site out every once in a while. Can't go into how I know (at least not right now) but lots of exciting stuff is brewing over the new book. Stay tuned, OK?

I loved Lambs books, BUT...
there are only Two! Anyone recommend any other books by other authors that have moved them as much as these two have?
Beach Music (formerly my #1 fave book of all time (tied with East of Eden by Steinbeck) was booted out of first by I know this much as true.
Im dying for another soul wrencher....any suggestions?

Wally Lamb's previous two books are among my favorites, with I Know this much is true holding the #1 spot. I hope that although his newest book is non-fiction, it will still possess much of the same qualities that I have come to know and love in his other writings. What do you guys think?

I read the bound galley proof for the new book last week (cover to cover). I doubt you dedicated Wally Lamb fans will be disappointed -- I sure wasn't! Should be some media coverage (concerning the book) breaking any day now. :0)

I heard that I Know this Much Is True is going to be a movie- Is that true?

>>By Nichole   (Saturday, 25 Jan 2003 12:57)

Hi!
Does anyone know, if there is a film based on "She's Come Undone" by Wally Lamb?

>>By lunatik   (Saturday, 25 Jan 2003 12:57)

I love Wally Lamb and I met him at a book signing a few months ago. He is such a wonderful,.
inspiring man. I would be interested in reading the new book when it comes out- which one are you referring to?

>>By Chris   (Thursday, 30 Jan 2003 22:52)

I was referring to Couldn't Keep it to Myself which is a collection of Wally's prison student's writings. The book was featured in USA Today newspaper yesterday and this morning on The Today Show. I read the entire book last night with the same compulsion to keep reading as I had when I read his other 2 books. Wally wrote an intro chapter that was really interesting, but I was so surprised about how moved I was by the women's stories.
Now I need to re read all the stories when I am more awake and can pay more attention to details, but most of them made me cry and they made me really think about things I never thought much about before. One more thing was that Wally's style of writing was apparant in these stories. He has taught the women for something like 3 years.
More later, I hope with others joining to discuss.
By the way my favorite story is called Hell and How I got Here by a woman who went to jail for 25 years when she was only 17 years old.

For Lunatik,

USA Today Weekend Magazine (2/2) makes mention of the big screen version of She's Come Undone, with Reese Witherspoon on board as Dolores. By the way, Wally Lamb wrote the screenplay for the movie too.

I just finished "Couldn't Keep it to Myself", it was extraordinary as Wally other two books are. I'd really like to know if any of his books are going to be made into movies? I'm not sure if Reese Witherspoon would be such a good choice for Dolores in She's Come Undone, she's a good actress but I see Dolores as a brunette.

Hi
Anyone out there know how to find a very old book by Wally Lamb. I believe its title is Always Begin Where You are. It's poetry collection by WL and it is out of publication. I think it was published in the 70's? ANy info please email at Jamiethibodeau79@hotmail.com

I just read that comment about REESE WITHERSPOON as Delores, give me a break. We'll have to see about that I guess. She would be the exact opposite of how I picture Delores. Any one online now to chat with?

I recently purchased Couldn't keep it to myself. Have not sat down to read it yet. Anyone know if he is working on another fiction novel?

>>By Jamie T.   (Wednesday, 5 Mar 2003 21:18)

Some authors are great writers and some writers are great story tellers, but rarely do you get a great writer and story teller. I can honestly compare Wally Lamb as one of the finest authors of our time. He has the uncanny ability to paint a perfect picture with words, and his abilty to know human nature is amazing. (I compare him to Stienbeck and London) "I Know This Much Is True" is now my favorite book of all time. My top five? "White Fang" "The Grapes of Wrath" "Daughter of Fortune" "Animal Farm".

I just finished shes come ondone. Reese Witherspoon? She seems too happy go lucky for Delores. And too skinny. I don't think Delores ever got that skinny even in her skinny days. I think more like someone like Drew Barrymore who did great at portraying the girl in riding in cars with boys.. If Shes come ondone is being turned into a movie, either its going to be a really really long movie or there are going to be many parts cut out. If they cut the parts out I don't think people will be able to understand why she does some of the things she does.

I was glad I found this site. I just finished She's Come Undone. I stayed up all night and all the next day. It captivated me. Wally Lamb rules!!! I read about Reese Witherspoon playing Dolores. I just can not picture it. At all. While reading She's Come Undone, I was asked by a "non-reader" what kind of movie it would be, and honestly I answered that I didn't feel as if would be a very good movie because like was mentioned earlier on either it be very long or they'd have to cut out tons, but when I heard that Wally Lamb wrote the screen play I was certain it would be great. He knows what he's doing. If only he has a part in the casting. In a way it's good that the movies coming. I read the last page earlier today and already I miss Dolores and the others fiercly. Can't wait to read the other two as soon as possible. I'm Wally lamb's number one fan!!!!

Wally Lamb and Anne Lamott are my favorite writers and story tellers.   (Monday, 24 Mar 2003 09:06)

Hi Wally fans!!

I know what everyone is saying about loving Wally. I'm not a big book reader, but picked up I Know This Much is True when I was on maternity leave and absolutely loved it. As soon as I was done it I ran to the Library and got She's Come Undone, and loved it even more. I'm now reading Couldn't Keep it to Myself, and am enjoying it, but am really looking forward to his next novel. He is such an awesome writer. It's a good thing that he does only have 2 novels out cause if there were more I'd be locked up in my house reading!!

I was very inspired by Couldn't Keep it to Myself. Plan to start a writing group at the Secure Unit where I work. I would like to email M r. Lamb. Does anyone know his email address?

>>By Susan Wolfson   (Sunday, 6 Apr 2003 14:56)

Sorry, don't know about e-mail, but you can write to Wally Lamb or any HarperCollins writer using the following address:

Author's Name
Book Title
% Author Mail 7th Floor
HarperCollins Publishing
New York, NY 10022

They will forward any mail sent to this address.

I am in the process of writing to some of the women from the new book. I hope mail can be forwarded to the ones still in prison too.

"She's Come Undone" was sad yet hilarious! I still reread the funny parts. I also can't picture Reese Witherspoon as Dolores. I think Kathy Bates would make a good Dolores as an older woman! Does anyone know what his next novel (not Couldn't Keep It to Myself) is about??? He's an awesome writer, but his novels seem to take years for him to write. But they are worth the wait.

Wally is one of the best authors I have ever read. I'm just now finishing up I know this much is true. I want to read "She's Come Undone" too. Is "She's Come Undone" as great of a book as"I Know This Much Is True" is.Would anybody recommend reading "She's Come Undone".

>>By brett   (Friday, 2 May 2003 17:15)

Hi Brett,

I would definatly recommend 'She's Come Undone'. I liked it better than 'I Know This Much is True'. Maybe that's because I'm a woman and the main character is a woman. Although I'm sure it would be totally awesome no matter what gender you are.

>>By Kami   (Friday, 2 May 2003 22:37)

I read recently that Mr Lamb had completed the screen play for She's Come Undone. Who is scheduled to play Delores and when will filming begin?
