W. G. Sebald

Forum

My new favorite author. I am a huge Delillo/Auster fan and find in Sebold's writing a kindred spirit, looking for meaning in a world of memory. I intend to read every book he's written! Started with Vertigo and was blown away. Sorry he left us so recently.

I've read every Sebald's narrative --for the term novel seems not to fit at all his long digressions made up of memoirs, travelogues, photographs and so on. From the very beginning, I felt as if an intimate part of me were present in that misty account of facts and dreams, evidences and invention, something like any of our everyday secrets, like our frustrations, hidden longings, fears and a sort of historic impedimenta that we unconciously carry over into every aspect of our existence.
