An essay of hers that is fairly hard to find was reviewed on NPR this evening. It was originally written for T.S. Eliot's magazine, which I believe was titled The New Criterion. I am not sure, but the essay was titled "On Being ill". It seemed interesting and insightful, and I am interested in reading more. Any suggestions?

The name of the book by Virginia Woolf (correct spelling of her name, by the way) that is portrayed in the upcoming movie, "The Hours" is "Mrs. Dalloway".

Can u tell me about gender and society in Flush?
>>By tiffany
I think the name of the book katy is asking about was Mrs. Dalloway....
>>By MOJO
mojo and Lori... the name of both the film and book is 'The Hours' inspired by 'Mrs. Dalloway' and Woolf's life. So there.
>>By you're wrong
Mrs. Woolf was married to Leonard Woolf, a critic and writer of economics and philosohphy. She killed herself by filling her pockets with stones and walking out into the Ouse River and drowned herself. It was said that she could not take the stress of having to live through another World War. The pain she felt from World War I can be noted in many of her works such as 'Mrs. Dalloway' and 'To The Lighthouse.'

woolf never had children because doctors told her that her emotional breakdowns would not allow her to properly care for them

Movie is unfortunately so-so: Great performances at times, but poor Direction and worse Editing of the final cut. A real shame as the film-world needs more of this genre as opposed to the loud violent themes so typical of the 90s'......

Jusr saw the movie and like a good book it must be seen more than once to be appreciated. The acting is superb and the overlays and interconnections are numerous and intriguing. This in one of the DVD's that need to be added to any good library.

I have admired her work since college. As I have had bouts of mild depression, it saddens me to think about what she must have gone through.
I loved "Mrs. Dalloway" which by the way was made into a film starring Vanessa Redgrave.
I have not read Cunningham's book but I saw the movie last night and was extremely impressed. It is a must see over and over again. I am off to buy the book.

I saw the movie last night and am very impressed. What a powerful movie about woman's emotions. The movie was very well done, with the overlays and how each story related to the other. This is a keeper!

My wife & I saw the movie last night - Hours - it was amazing!
The acting was superb-Nicole Kindman was breathtaking as Virginia Woolf. The score was great - this is what movie making is all about.
I engourage everyone to see the film.

I saw the movie last night, not knowing at all what it was about. Nicole Kidman wa was superb! But it was the MOST depressing movie I've ever spent money to see. It was choppy, difficult to follow and not fun. Great acting but not worth the effort to make or see.
