I majorly need help! How does Karsch's personal story intersect with the story of the two Germanies? How does Karsch compare East Germany with West Germany?

Anniversaries. Who has read it? I looked at an excerpt of it in a book that was mostly Speculations About Jakob. Speculations was ok, too much an imitation of Faulkner with a bit of German elements thrown in, but Anniverrsaries, from this excerpt seemed truly great in style. Is it worth it? When I stayed in Bonn for a couple of weeks a few years ago in the home of a well read Lutheran pastor, he, after learning my tastes, strongly recommended Johnson -- but so far, other than this German Library edition I haven't been able to break through -- I would like to see more the influence of Musil in the post-war German writers. I've read Broch, and I think the Sleepwalkers is excellent stuff, but Death of Virgil bogs down for me, except the long parts with the poetic sentences. I like the author who breaks off the narrative and the story in order to deliver a philosophy lecture in entertaining essay format and wonder if this style hasn't been continued in the modern German style or any other nationality's style? Sincerely, No Qualities
