what is greasy lake? (Monday, 2 Jun 2003 07:05)
Greasy Lake is the title of a story, and the collection of stories it was published within. The story is about...let's see...I'd say disenfranchised, intelligent male youth, who, lacking validation from their observed bourgeois lifestyles, search for truth in instinctual behavior, only to fail in that as well.

What's the significance of the 3-day-old corpse in the lake? It seems to be the pivotal event in the story. The narrator gets shocked back into reality. Also, I don't understand why the narrator feels like crying when he sees the 2 girls who arrive looking for Al (corpse?).

I am currently writing a 1000 word essay on whether or not i think "Greasy Lake" is an appropriate choice of material for high school students to read. Does anyone have an oppinion that can help me out? I am on both sides of supporting it and refuteing it. which makes it heard to choose and write the essay. Thanks

I am writing a paper on Boyle's After the Plague. Anyone have any comments on the role the city plays as a defining feature of the theme?
thanks a lot
