Susan R. Matthews has become one of my very favorite authors. I mean to the point where I want to buttonhole strangers on the street and demand they read her Jurisdiction novels! Admittedly I didn't like Avalanch Soldier or Colony Fleet as much, but the Jurisdiction universe is enthralling, as is her very flawed hero, Andrej Koscuisko. Matthews was raised in the military and served as an operations officer to a combat support hospital, so her observance of military beauracracy and corruption rings true right down to your bones, as does her clear insights on human nature. On the other hand, her invention of Koscuisko's aristicratic, matriarical, deeply religious culture is fascinating and believable. I hope her resolution lives up to the rest of the series, I can't wait to read it.
