Steven Pinker

Forum

Steven Pinker is a highly intelligent man and has my praise for every single piece of wrok that he has done. His respect for Darwin's theory's is wonderful and the fact that he can get his somewhat "old fashioned ideas" accepted by many modern scientists says a lot for his credibility. Although some scientists find him a radical and his ideas even more unacceptable, that does not sway my opinion at all. I have not personally read any of his books, but just from reading book reviews of his novels i have come to appreciate his work. I agree with all of his theories, even though i am a Freshmen in high school, i am very familiar with psychology. I believe that it is not the parents that mold the child entirely, children especially teens sway from the norm. It is who the child wants to be and what kind of people they attract. I, for example, am very different from what my parents would expect me to be, but here i am. Violence may run in genes, and a small part may be contributed to surroundings, but the child has the ability to control those instincts and block them out. As for the scientist who believe in "little ghosts" in the neuron system, that is ridiculous. Neurons are highly complex and such a simple explanation is unacceptable to me. I thank Steven Pinker for assailing those who believe in such things.
