Discussion: Sebastian Faulkes

Has anybody made the link between Captain Gray in birdsong and Charlotte Gray's father? Having enjoyed the book enormously we felt that the film did Charlotte Gray a great injustice. Comments welcomed. J and T

I thought that 'Birdsong' was utterly brilliant with a great insight into trench warfare

I loved Birdsong but did not enjoy Charlotte Gray or On Green Dolphin Street at all.

I found it very difficult to understand Stephen's attitude to life - he seemed overly detatched at times when most would be emotional. This was especially apparent when meeting Isobelle after the bomb - a little more reaction perhaps?

Mr. Faulkes is a master of romance and war, I've read
them all and just started Charlotte Gray once again.

The TV version held my attention as well. As a small child,
I remember WWII. The posters displayed on walls reminded all of us that Loose Lips Sink Ships and
Scraps for the Japs. WWII was the last great adventure.

I hope we never suffer wars foolishly again.
