I have almost finished Promise at Dawn (an English translation of La Promesse de l'Aube). I was particularly intrigued by the anguish Romain obviously felt during the war as his comrades died. Also, was Romain aided or hindered by his mother constantly being in hid mind and urging him on to be a patriotic Frenchman? I'd love to hear what anyone else has to say.
