They were not allowed to sleep by themselves in the bunks because then they may have been comfortable, and if you remember correctly they weren't supposed to be comphy. Justin, that is one of the most ignorant things I have ever read. During that time, if you hadn't noticed from the book, the prisoners were not exactly given all of the commodities that we are! I stand with LP, I am not amused.
