Brilliant kid; incredible book. Can't wait to see what he does next.

I agree Tess. It's a shame he's getting so panned because of all his connections.
I was reading some reviews and they pretty much all said the same thing: that it was a terrible book and that it would never have been published if it wasn't for the fact his god-father owned the publishing company.
But I loved it! And to all those reviewers who are giving Nick a hard time - I bet you're all just jealous because YOUR novels couldn't get published and a novel written by a guy 30 years younger than you could!!

Good on ya Nick - looking forward to your next work of art.

I am a senior in high school and I loved this book, and my friends that have read it loved it too. Everyone just keeps passing it around. A new person every week. All the kids seem to be captivatied by it. Its good stuff. One of my favorites! For Sure. Its even better that a kid our age wrote it! Can't wait for the next one.

Today I just finished reading the book. When I first started reading it, i didn't know what to think, but as the book went on I really warmed up to it. It was a terrific debut. I think Nick McDonell is an inspiration to young writers everywhere.

i have a boring job and decided to get a book at the library one morning in order to tolerate the day. I checked out twelve and read the entire book in one day. I could not put it down. Being 24 I am glad that someone in our generation finally had enough courage and brains to write it how it is. I can't wait for the next one! I am an immediate fan! The book is awesome.

I thought I'd go pick out a nice novel to keep me occupied for a week, and Twelve looked somewhat intriguing, so I picked it up. I sat down with it the second I got home from Borders and got back up three hours later, after I had read the whole book. I'm SO in intellectual love!

My friend told me about the book today actually, and was finishing it during our chemistry class this afternoon. I was interested in why the title was Twelve and borrowed it to read the back cover. Before I knew it I was reading the first three pages and borrowed the book. I finished it in two hours. I never put it down. Its an amazing book and Nick McDonell is an inspiration to young writers. It must have taken a great amount of courage to not only write the book, but put it out there for people to read. I know that being a writer myself, putting one of my own poems out there for acceptance or denial, was a lot more difficult than I thought ( I am now 17). My poem's publishing was an amazing experience, and I would like to congratulate Nick, his book is more than an accomplishment, its an amazing step towards an amazing writing career. Congrats Nick! Keep writing!

Truely incredible novel. I have been intrigued by the books subject matter for a number of years and Nick hit the nail on the head with Twelve. I bought the book last night and finished it this morning. Now I'm starving for more of his work. I can't wait to see what else he will come up with.

I work in the library so I checked out "Twelve" and read it in one day..I later realized that the author was only 18! I think it's great that he's come this far at such a young age because I myslef am aspiring to go into journalism and my dream is to write a bestseller. He definetly showed me it can be done at this age! I know how hard it can be and this book was for sure admirable! looking foward to the next one nick!

I loved the book! I picked it up after I heard about it from a friend. One of my favorite things about it was reading all the slang in the book, especially the parts about Timmy and Mark Rothko and then look at Nick McDonell's picture on the back. It was so hard to imagine him talking like that.

I reciently was told about Twelve and picked up my own copy. I started it at about ten at night and read the entire thing in one sitting. I then got up, had a smoke, and continued to reread the book. I am utterly obsessed. I could discuss the book for hours, which I am hoping to do. I have just started the first Twelve yahoo group at groups.yahoo.com/groups/twelve_NickMcDonell . Please, come and visit. I have no members as of yet, but hopefully, with some people joining, we can get the group hopping. Cheers!

I just finished reading Twelve and it is excellent. I read it all today and just thought that it was so great. Nick Mcdonell uses great dialect and really kept me wondering about why all these people were mentioned. It surprised me about how it ended so aprubtly, but it was still good. I can't wait for another book to come out.

Just like almost everyone else who has commented on this book, i finished it the same day i read it. The thing that surprises me is that the only other books i have done this with are dan brown's "angels and demons" and "the da vinci code," both novels with which the amount of research put into could equal the age of the author of "Twelve." When i read articles saying twelve is unoriginal and stereotyped, i am compelled to think the contrary. I was amazed at the accurateness and omniscience of the novel; it was so applicable to my experience even down to the littlest social or psychological commentary. I have never personally read anything else that comes close to summing up my generation; other books like requiem for a dream and fear and loathing in las vegas come close, but apply to other generations. Finally, i want to commend nick mcdonell's characterization of the ignorance and lethargy which dominates people our age; i have only met a handful of people who can look into the sociology of this age and come out with (what really is not too biased) what he has.
