Discussion: Naomi Klein

I am currently a student at NYU. I have to select a Thesis topic for my Writing class and have decided to write about the injustice of sweatshops. If you have any suggestions that will help me make the paper more specific I would be very grateful. I read your book NO LOGO (as it is a required text for Sociology at NYU) and I found it facinating. Thanks for any help you can offer. kellyelwood@hotmail.com

Read this book. It is all that needs to be said. Anything that can highlight the branding method's as being used so widely ( I figure the Manic Street Preachers made themselves a brand) so easily is a must read.

I haven't read "No Logo" but I have read "Shock Doctrine," which blew me out of the water. Naomi Klein has a website. Google her name. She is a great writer.

I lived on this earth for 55-ish years, and then read "Shock Doctrine".

My mother-in-law was one of the people tortured by Cameron for the CIA. I was watching TV news the day Orlando Letelier was blown up in his car in Washington DC. I
knew of some of the world events that she talks about in this book. But I'll tell you: I will never look at this world the same way after having read this book. Now she has spoken in Rolling Stone magazine about the fiscal crisis and financial bailings. I await the next shock with new eyes.

The Shock Doctrine was the book to make me understand how the world has changed after the 70'ies and will change, it makes me fear. Recommend Ernst Bruun Olsen: The Mailman from Arles, too (poor people can't buy machine guns, so the era of revolutions is over).
