difficult to say, really. i think it's been a year since i read the book. probably the cat. igot off on the marx bros. aspect in the middle of all the heavier matters. comic relief is good. the restaraunt scene was great.

I just started "the white guard" and I must say I am labouring. I was tempted to give it up several times. Most of the time, I do not understand what the author is talking about. Has anyone read it and is it worth hanging on ?

I think he's quite funny ;)
Although I haven't finished the one book by his I've started to read (take a guess), and I suppose I'd rather not be a character, what with heads rolling and apartments being invaded by giant cats. But (in the translation, anyway) I think he's hilarious.

Seriously folks, if you like Bulgakov, give Victor Pelevin a try. He is really fantastic!

dear Kara. i have read the white guard and it is pretty simple. it is about comunism, and how it has started in russia. it`s about two men, a "mighty" one, and a coward one, about a family that never gets to stay together and so the plot might go on. it is about russia and, what bulgakov could think, the fake face of his country

Master and Margarita is beautifully elegant - superb.
Fatal Eggs is...hmm...a bit daft.
Heart of a Dog is currently being devoured, with much promise thus far.

Of course, my opinions may not necessarily be that of the reader.

Master and Margarita was astonishing, and my fav character is the great portrait that the author made of Poncio Pilatos
