Discussion: Mary Oliver

what a lovely writer. I find her earthy tones very soothing and real. She isn't afraid to face death and even the hints of afterlife. But, I do find much of her work similiar after a while.

i love mary oliver's poetry. each line is seemingly so simple, but speaks volumes...take for instance the first line of wild geese:

"you do not have to be good."

lovely. simply lovely.

I've read a few volumes of her poetry and also her "Handbook".
It can't make me a poet. Yet, I yearn to be.

She is the last vestige of Americana. The last vestige of patriotic truth !
