what order should i read the books by MZB in?
>>By becky
I have always loved MZB's books from the moment i picked up the mists of avalon. While you can read any MZB book in any order because each book is complete in itself, I have always felt that Darkover should be read the 1970's and 80's books first and then the 90's and then the earlier stuff. It shows her progression as a writer and books like the Heritage of Hastur and the Forbidden Tower are stand out works. In the Avalon series, I thinks mists should be read first as it is the best one, the rest are good but mists is truly an amazing book. I live in Ireland so it is quite difficult to get her books (Any one out there to help me!) so I haven't always had the opportunity to read her books chronologically. One of the main reasons I went on holiday to the states last year is to try and source MZB books, o dear I think I sound mental!!

I began reading MZB just a few short months ago. My personal favorite is Lady of Avalon - it follows the incarnation of three High Priestesses. I also loved Forest House, which to me sets the whole Avalon series. I've read the entire Avalon series... even Fall of Atlantis which all the Avalon books allude to. I've never read any of the Darkover books- a bit fanciful for my taste. I loved the Avalon books because she describes places I've only seen in my dreams- places I've always wanted to see in reality. Those who live in Ireland and Wales don't realize what gift they been given- living in such a land steeped in history. MZB writes in such a way that I could feel the wind on my face, I could hear the drums rumble through the grove, and I could taste the kisses tearing at my lips... I was such an impatient reader, I couldn't wait to have the stories revealed before me. Ever now, on a foggy morning I can feel the priestess in me lift her arms to part the veil between here and forever...

ALL the Avalon books are wonderful! my favorite is The Forest House. I have all 4 of these books. I read the books in the following order: The Forest House, Lady of Avalon & Mists of Avalon.
I just bought The Fall of Atlantis today. I am eagerly awaiting the book. :)

My favorites are the Darkover novels. Haven't read any of them in years, though. Mists of Avalon is the only one of that series that I've read, and I didn't like it as much as the Darkover novels. MZB was such a nice lady. Years ago I wrote her about one of her books and she replied to me in person!
