In my oppinion "The feast of the goat" (La fiesta del chivo) is one of the best latinoamerican novels written in the last decade. Although it refers to a topic highly exploted by american writers, the dictatorships, it has been written in a languaje that might become easily in a script movie, focused on the environment of corruption, crime, sick loyalty and lust that used to cover this kind of common characters in the history of American continent. Also the writer plays with the no continuity of time and recurrs to flashbacks that really rich the rithm of the story. This novel together with "The city and the dogs" (La ciudad y los perros) and "Conversation in the Cathedral" (Conversación en la catedral) from the same author, shows a very good picture of the relationship among politicians, militars and chuch in our societies, always condimented by the magnificent narrative of this peruvian/spanish writer.
