Hi... has anyone read 'John Dollar'? I've read about a third of it, and am finding it really, really disturbing. Anyone out there who can give me a quick summary of what's happening, and what is going to happen? Hey, The_one, can you help me? Please? What is it with the snake and Oopi?!

Skip John Dollar, go to Evidence of Things Unseen, then go back to John Dollar. You will gain a much more concrete sense of her as a writer. I struggled through some early works, which I am now rereading with pleasure. "Evidence of Things Unseen" contains some of the most beautiful prose I've ever read. Right up there with "A Parchment of Leaves". Don't miss the part where Opal is describing what a mother is. Incredible!
