I would like some educated opinions on "How to Talk to your Mother" From her collection of short stories publishedin 1985 titled "Self Help". Thankyou!

i was at a 'fashion show' (i think this is the right term in english) of jean-charles de castelbajac and he had a model walk with a shit that said 'irony = distance'. later, (i am a student at paris 3 - la sorbonne nouvelle) when i was working on my presentation of lorrie moore's "like life," i thought this was very a propos. irony = distance. in each of the stories there is an element of distance through irony, be it through her inability to be intimate with a person or through her disconnection from another person's reality or whatever, the narrotor's voice is always couched in an ironical distance from what is discussed. i think in both of your texts, this is an element worth considering. voilą.
