Lee Child

Wow, thought I would find some comment on Lee Childs books here?

I bought a Lee Child book out of curiosity but his writing didn't press the right buttons, neither did a Cathy Reichs... I guess both would be good for anyone needing to research Americanism' and to be street cred on American slang...Both books ended up on charity book stall, a fate that hasn't befallen AM, yet...

Just finished reading One Shot. Excellent if you like the sort of books where you know that the obvious solution cannot be the true one but there seems no other option. Excellent plot. Shame the Reacher character has not moved on in any way. There is no real development over the last few books. No insight into his personal life and whether he is just going to continue drifting for another 5 books.

Perhaps Mr Child could consider writing a few more retrospectives like The Enemy?

They should be read in order of publication like all of this genre where there is a certain serialisation, except in this case, where 'The Enemy' should be read first. I would recommend these books to any reader who enjoys the unfeasible hard-man loner type, they are never disappointing. I have to say Lisle, if Reacher 'moved on' I doubt that the books would be so compelling. Remember in one 'episode' he inherited a house which immediately disappeared come the next volume, when he had little money as usual, so Lee obviously likes him as he is.

i think Lee Child suffers in the way that many creative people suffer-literary or musical-in that they hit upon a successful formula in Jack Reacher and the star takes over from the plotlines. Early Reacher books were excellent stories and Jack being Jack was just a bonus but for the last few books there's only been Jack and a threadbare plot.Shame.

Bad Luck and Trouble was IMHO the best Reacher that I've read (three more on the ready table tho.) The character does change a bit and now he carries more than his folding toothbrush. I won't give it away, though.
