Isn't this whole story just about revenge? Don Lupe kills Juvencio's cow. Juvencio kills Don Lupe, the Colonel kills Juvencio Also I think that Juvencio and the Colonel had a lot in common

Did Don Lupe really take that long to die? Was that exagettered? You would think he would have lost a lot of blood.

Ok we've established that it's all about revenge but when am I gonna get to back and eat?

comment # - i am not sure - just personal feelings :

dearest world literature class 206,

when talking about the misfortunes of the humans - we have sadly failed to take into consideration the lives and well being of the cows . animal cruelty was a large part- if not main part of this story . had we been taking care of our animal friends - no humans would have been killed - all families would have been happy . the owners of these distraught animals basically threw themselves in the situation to have their lives end due to a killing of an animal .

I believe Dad' Dream was a very good play based on the manners in which we lead our lives. Steve is a genuis and will forever live in some corners of my heart.

response to Question 16

>Was there a bigger meaning to this story? I read it looking for something >huge like the rest of the stories we read seem to have. Yet I did not find
> anything. Can someone please help me?

The story portrays a pethetic, selfish sole, who didn't fight for anything but his own selfish goals. (well maybe that a little harsh) but we can see how much his wife meant to him, compared to his own life in the following lines.

"he let her go as he'd let everything else go, without putting up a fight."

Comment: Interesting that the "one" that he thought he didn't have to fear (a family member -since they had taken the kids to far off relatives) was the "one" that did put him to death. He alluded all, but not his victim's son.

response to feeg:
I hadn't thought about that before. But now that you mention it, I agreee. had they taken care of the animals in the first plce this would never have happened.

Cows have feelings too. They make great baseball gloves and I love burgers, especially from The Down Town Lounge. I highly recomend them. There is nothing like a burger and a brew from the DTL. Oh, cows have feelings and I do feel sorry for them.

Dad's Dream ...

was that the one about a man who rampaged the streets of myerstown in just pink boxers and mocassins in his search to find the meaning of life ?

if so - that was an awfully written story and whoever wrote it should hang their head in shame and think about what they have done .

>>By feeg !

I agree with Cindy why did he waste his life running and eventually give up and get caught? He should of just given up in the first place and avoided his life of running.

response to Ben
I hadn't sympathized with Juvencino-- not thinking highly enough of the life of his cattle, which yeah, is certainly the equivalent of the life of his family... but also the life of the compadre's family (in essence).so where's the line? Juvencino killed the man who helped to rear his children...

I believe at that time, that is what most people did when they committed a crime. And when the time came when he wanted to plead guilty it was too late...

PEOPLE ...SOMETHING INTERESTING !!!!!!

Looking a bit deeper into the story, I think the author kind of foretells us what will happen. Here...look... "Already it was time for the rains to have come, but the rains didn't come and the corn was beginning to wither. Soon it'd be all dried up," interestingly enough I related that to the death of old Juvencil, who had killed the orphan's son.

"rains to come" -- hope, help, justice to come but EARLIER
"beginning to wither" -- getting older, there was no hope when he was caught
"Soon it'd be all dried up" -- the death in the end

Do you guys see it? Or, am I going mad? Hope not!

18 and what does it say about the fact that Lupe's son retrieved Juvencio's son to
take his father's body away rather than simply disposing of it ie feeding it to the birds....

>>By cindy

I believe Steve is drunk, I seriously do. Was the revenge justified? Did Don Lupe's son feel better after he was shot in the face?
