This books lets readers know the unjustness of the Canadian Government in WWII. (Race doesn’t define what makes someone a "Canadian")

I am reading Itsuka, if any one could help me out, i am writing an essay on how Japanese Canadians have coped with what happened in WWII. How they are affected in present day Cananda. Could anyone help me with some body paragraphs (2). That would be great. My e-mail is seancarny@hotmail.com

Obasan is a much deeper reflection of the struggle among Japanese Americans of that time than I have ever read. What makes it so, is because it is told from a childs perspective which if you think about it is as honest as literature can get. It is not as clouded with prejudice as an adults mind would be.

Joy Kogawa really opens herself up to her readers. She hides nothing and let's her hailstone of truth melt on to her pages in the telling of her past. She wondefuly brings the truth to surface in a fashion that is recognizable yet hororable.

I just finished reading "obasan" and can honestly say that it was one of the worst books I have ever read. The history of the book is amazing, and the personal struggle the Japanese endure is horrible. I think that "obasan" is a great book if it is assigned for school; however, don't read it unless you have to. The point of view of a child's perspective is witty but polluted with blind spots, which in turn lessens the credibility of what the author has to say. The book is too full of "critical evaluations" that an average reader (most people are) wouldn't even begin to pick-up on the hidden meanings. Need I remind all of the pro-obasan people that the book is fictional--although based on some actual events. It is not wise to believe that "her hailstone of truth...hides nothing." It doesn't tell all or it would be a non-fictional book. History is what makes the book.

i thought that this book was absoultely amazing, and I have no idea why people are saying that it sucked. Well I guess everyone is entitled to there own opion, but I think that no matter what anyone says to me, I will always think that it is amazing. It really opened my eyes to things that I did not know very much about before!
