I think that Joshua Slocum was a very brave adventurer and should be agnoledged. Imagine going in a straight line for 28 days like Joshua Slocum didwhen he was sailing alone aorund! THat is just amazing i think. I love to sail and i think it would be interesting to sail alone around the world. But now a days heaps of cool technology has been invented so it wouldnt be very hard

My first thought that technology can provide wonderful aids in navigation was too limited. Even the added convience of weather reports to assist the sailor with the knowledge needed to avoid the many of mother natures suprises is not enough in this day and age. Aside from the riggers of managing a sailboat alone and trying to outwit mother nature; being alone is what I see as the greatest challenge facing the solo circumnavigator today. With the advent of video conferencing and satellite communication the hardship of being alone and out of touch would be greatly relieved. My hat is off to any one having the personal fortitude to undertake such voyage today. My admiration to Josuha Slocum for being the first so long ago!
