Hi!

I don't know what is that you want to know that you don't know about Joseph Quincy Mitchell (1908-1996). I am the author of one (suppressed book that circulated maybe thirty or so copies) about this author and am about to complete and publish a second.
I have also contributed the entry on Mitchell in the DLB 1996 "Yearbook" and edited a section on him in the 1993 issue of "Pembroke Magazine."
If you are interested in reading (what a treat lies before you!) the work of Joseph Mitchell, you would do best, I think, to read in the sequence of his publications, beginning with "My Ears Are Bent" and ending with "Joe Gould's Secret." After that, you will probably greatly enjoy the 2000 film version of the last-named book (which dramatizes Mitchell and his family) and after that read the "Postscript" dedicated to him and written by his peers and friends at the "New Yorker"--this is in the June 10, 1996 issue.
As his peers would say to novice staffers coming to the magazine, "Read the Master."

Best wishes,

rjr
