John Oliver Killens

I enjoyed attending the National Black Writers Conference, single-handedly founded by the late African American writer John Oliver Killens, beginning first at Fisk University in Nashville, Tennesse in the 1960s, and then later, in 1986, at my professional home institution of Medgar Evers College in Brooklyn, New York where Killens held the position of Writer-in-Residence until his untimely death. Killens, by his organizing and writing, left a great legacy.
