| Discussion: John O'Brien I just wrote a novel called Starter Life and I dedicated the book to three people (my parents and John O'brien). The reasons why I chose John are two: I chose him because this is my first novel like Leaving Las Legas was his and his writing style served to motivate me. I also based the novel on the main character named David that was a genius but eventually self destructed (like John did). The novel is about an emotional disorder that is fairly common but not yet written about (at least not a novel to my knowldge). The people in the chatroom think John had it.
