Discussion: Jane Smiley

Just read Good Faith

>>By Mim

Now reading 'Lidie Newton' on my journey thru all Jane's works. I am getting there and enjoying every minute. All of them. I heard her on a BBC Radio Three [UK]programme some months ago chatting and selecting music with Michael Berkeley and felt that I must read at least some of her work. They are all different, I mean compare 'The Greenlanders' and 'Moo'. 'Barn Blind' and 'A Thousand Acres' drove me to take horse riding lessons, much too late in life. Unfortunately I am no natural and cannot continue. In fact tomorrow I shall have to say good-bye to 'Maisie' a lovely 8 year old who has been very patient with me but has taken advantage of my age and physical condition in an effort to save others of her species from having to tolerate me on their backs. Ah. Well! If you are reading Jane Smiley I hope you find her as addictive as I have and all to your benefit
