I urge you to read his latest collection of stories, "Last Night", all of them tremendous, with some O. Henry like endings, but still dealing with contemporary issues. If Proust had written short fiction, this would be it. Especially recommend "Give", "My Lord You", and the title story. Writers just don't write like this anymore. I am reading his memoir, "Burning the Days", probably my favorite book title of all time, also tremendous. Please, someone, give him a chance, and let me know how you feel about his writing.
