Discussion: Jacques Barzun

Last year I read Barzun's voluminous "From Dawn to Decadence: 500 Years of Western Cultural Life from 1500 to the Present". I was exposed to authors, architects, politicians, scientists, philosophers, rulers, explorers and artists whom I had never even heard of. But what was so amazing was that when I read about the author, while trying to figure out how anyone could be so all-encompassing in their world view and research, I found out that Barzun was 96 years old when he wrote the book!!!

I came upon 'the ghost in the machine' 50 years ago and had the same reaction.

Ghost in the Machine was written by Koestler, by the way.
