I just want to say that, these 2 books are the best books I have ever read....and I have read my share of books before. I really cannot wait until the next installment, Kushiel's Avatar comes out! The level of attention to detail, the epic-ness of Phedre's task and the supremely intense erotica are all so beautifully written and compelling. I can't believe the intensity with which I took a liking to these books. All the way through to Kushiel's Mercy (which was almost unbearably painful to read for the first several chapters-wonderful but gut-wrenching) they have held me in their thrall. The depth to which many of the non-essential characters are fleshed out gives the reader a real sense of the world; it seems more real than several other fantasy fiction novels I've read.
