Discussion: Hrabal

Anyone who hasn't read this man should. Possibly the greatest 20th century novellist. I would love you to read him to prove me wrong. That way there will be one more Hrabal fan in the world.

I agree wholeheartedly!

Too Loud a Solitude is fantastic- I push that book on as many people as I can and haven't run into many who didn't like it. I wish I could read it in the orignal language- the translation is beautiful and SO good so I wonder what I'm missing out on.

As being Czech I wish I could read it in the English to know if it is translated so well :-) I prefere Closely Watched Trains and other older works.

i'm often coming back to Něžný barbar and to Obsluhoval jsem anglického krále because it is often in theatres here in Poland.
and i'm totaly in love with Hrabal :)
