Discussion: Harry Turtledove

er anyone there

It would be hard for any writer to live up to the Videssos Cycle, but I have been more than a little disappointed by Mr. Turtledove's more recent efforts. I don't think any of his retelling of WWII or the Civil War in fantasy settings are very entertaining, and I wish he would get away from these huge ensemble casts as in the WorldWar or American Empire series. Every now and again, though, he does give us entirely original works like A Different Flesh and Between The Rivers that prove he's still the master of what he does. I haven't checked it out yet, but I really am looking to his treatment of Conan.
