for those interested in birthday party:
like all the other plays by pinter it is called comedy of menace.it lends itself to a symbolic interpretation:the characters goldberg and maccann represent social demands(goldberg for family & religion and maccann for power struggle)society is seen as something which restricts the individual and taking the real identity and creativity from him and instead giving a standard identity but a dead one.stanly incorporates different aspects of an artist in a society(his piano playing)he is crushed by an unfeeling society.
