If you've never read a short story by Theodore Sturgeon or Harlan Ellison you are missing out on a Mind Candy Delight. They are called Science Fiction writers but they are writers of Speculative fiction. Find a story any story by either of these two suoerstars and the hook will be set. A Short Story collection by Sturgeon called Sturgeon is Alive and Well...(he is now deceased) will take you plaves few writers are capable of taking you.
Harlan Ellison is just a Plain Genius--Sci-fi,sci-fact, speculative fiction, novels*2 special ones--The Glass Teat snd Another Glass Teat give TV a much needed kick in the ass(novels). Short story collection--I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream--will leave you wondering about many a thing for many a day. Two awsxome writers. Try them out.

Yes, very sad. I just visited ole Teddy's gnook site and was the first to add a comment. Very sad.

So, if it's just us two I won't waste words. So in short and simply put, "What he said!"

I will add that all three of my children, 22, 19, and 16, have all read samples of both Ellison and Sturgeon, and were very impressed--and somewhat changed from the experience. Both writers are timeless...so you better hurry.

I first read Ellison in high school in the early 80's and was blown away. I think my favorite story is Jeffty is Five, although there are so many to choose from. Isn't it marvelous when an excellent writer is also prolific? I still love to reread his stories and I have most his books, including his Glass Teat books, which are hilarious reviews of old TV shows. I must admit though that I find his anger slightly tiresome now that I'm way past my windmill-tilting teens and twenties. But at least it was a righteous anger. I mean who wouldn't be angry about Kent State and Kitty Genovese? Aside from that and his somewhat tired act of hating most everyone, his writing still amazes me. There are bits that have stuck in my head for years, like his description of the Saint-Louis Cemetery in New Orleans in which he talks about the essential "chairness" of Danish chairs. I can never think of Danish furniture without thinking of the New Orleans horsy cockroach! I've never found another writer quite like Ellison.
