Discussion: Goodkind

Goodkind is one of my favorite writers. I love his talent for great detail on so many things. I can picture everything just as he describes it. I absolutley love his sword of truth series and will continue to buy his books.

Hi! I only just started reading Wizard's First Rule and it is very good. Goodkind definately has the knack of bring the story to life. Every scene is described so well that if you close your eyes you feel that you might be standing next to Richard. You can feel what he's going through and relate to how he is feeling. I just bought Pillars of Creation not realizing it was no.7 in such a long series. Do you think it is important to read no. 1-6?

to Arika dawn - yes read all start with 1st and read in progression. I have noticed that Richard To be one of the most intelligent characters i have ever read about.
I did not like Pillars and was disapointed. but naked empire is back on track and entertaining.
I think terry is saying that oppression is overcome by people who think for themselves and dont blindly accept all and sundry. "your life is your own , live it'.
terrys books have revolutionised the fantasy genre.

I agree that his books are very entertaining, but I don't think he's a good author. He takes too much time to make his points, which generally come across as arrogant "morals to the story."
I am enjoy reading about Richard, but I get annoyed when I'm distracted by all the crap Goodking adds to make his books seem like more than pop fiction. They are good, but not deep or intelligent.
