I have just read The Corrections by Franzen. It is the best book I have read in ages -beautifully constructed, complex and with a sympathetic insight into his characters of all ages which rivals that of Tolstoy i think. It's not often that I come across a writer who tackles the complexities of modern life head on and yet manages to be funny at the same time. Does anyone else agree and do you know of any similar authors?
