I find his works quite amusing and thrilling. A great variety of suspension is built. He is a master f suspensio & climax I think.

Poe is an amazing writer, except the fact that he was crazy, on drugs, and alcohol. he used narcotics. if you want to win a million dollars, email me at whatiswrongwithyoupeople@hotmail.com

Poe was not a drug addict or insane. That was myth...created by an enemy of his. It seems Poe wrote criticism also. His criticism, while brilliant, pissed people off. He did go on drinking binges and have quite a bit of problems with women, but he was, at least not according to the evidence, crazy.

I find him to be one of the true masters of poetry! Just marvelous! True masters are very rare indeed.

If you like Edgar Allan Poe, you might enjoy my Poe page at http://www.intercoursewiththedead.com/poecrit.htm
It contains a biography of Poe and reviews of all of his short stories and his one short novel.

poe was the first to write polars and was also the first to introduce ghotic writing in the states...i love his poems esp. the raven and my favorite short story is the fall of the house of usher.from the first word that u read to the last his writing would not release u until it leaves u in a beautiful horror.

I am not a fan of poetry, but Poe is my big exception, he is a true spine-tingling genius. I reread his colected poems and short stories every October, when the leaves are changing and the nights hum with magic and no matter how many times I have read them, I find myself looking around to see if I'm still alone and that it is just the wind taping at my door.(sorry I couldn't resist)

His stories are so dark and scary, but I like them. I don't know why, but I like.

Well, how totally juvenile to have nothing to say about a writer as great as Poe other than he was a "drug addict, alcoholic". Might as well write off Lewis Carroll, Hemingway, Elmore Leonard, Dorothy Parker, etc., etc., etc. You people are really starting to bore me. If you don't love literature, why are you on this site? Why don't you just try Encarta, I think it might be a bit easier for you.

how totally juvenille to have nothing to say about a writer other than that what other people are saying about the writer is totally juvenille and then not proposing a discussion topic afterwards.

Oh sorry, seem to have lost my train of thought . God, how did that happen, am I a .............
I love Poe, and have since I was about 12 years old. But it is his poetry that I love. And Annabelle Lee is also one of my favorite all time poems, and my grandmother's name. Probably not enough
for granther though, by the way what are your thoughts on Poe?

>>By willwrite   (Saturday, 4 Sep 2004 08:37)

if poe was on drugs when he wrote all the stuff he did, then drugs should be used more often.
