Discussion: Eça De Queirós I just heard about the movie by this title today. I had just finished reading Embers by Sandor Marai and according to this site they are similar authors. Have you read anything by him? My favourite is the Crime of Father Amaro, which is a blistering attack on the Catholic church in Portugal in the 19th century. His writing is surprisingly graphic for a 19th century writer and addresses other taboo issues such an incest , which he deals with in The Maias. >>By ant101
