Or is it "get himself killed for the good money which he makes by protecting corporate interests"???

It can't be just the money, how much do you need really?
"It's the only thing I'm good at" sounds just a lame excuse.
So what is it??
I know it is a very personal thing to ask..... but I'm intrigued.

"The only thing I'm good at" or "I've always done this" sounds lame to me, too. I am sure in DF's case it is also that he is protecting non-combatants, but to me the better way to protect the innocent is to stand up against unneccesary conflicts in the first place.
Unlike so many in the U.S., though, DF is not a "warmonger" or one who has something to prove about his manhood. Hopefully he will one day share more of his thoughts on what drives him to do what he does. Until then, we'll keep looking for clues in his excellent fiction and his "notes from the author"--still the coolest thing I've seen any writer do on the net, and a big reason his fans will continue supporting him and spreading the word.

an interesting update at www.duncanfalconer.com

>>By Rikky   (Friday, 22 Sep 2006 14:16)

Oh oh let us see !! Hmmm yes ... interesting is the right word for it ....

Thank you DF and Rikky

Good Lord! I learned more about the situation in Iraq in a few paragraphs from DF than in weeks of BBC and CNN. I really wish Duncan could or would disseminate this stuff to a wider audience, it's eye-opening. DF's still tops, and so's Rikky for the post!

Told you all before! If you want more stories like that, but bigger, better, and harder, read 'Highway to Hell' by John Geddes.

The newsletter was a good read, though it left me a bit dizzy.

Re Newsletter: I also get a kick out of the adventures the jobs often bring and I take advantage of opportunities to collect material for books that many writers cannot possibly get first hand.

Pretty much an answer to my question - though I wouldn't be so arrogant to think it was meant to be an answer to my question of course :-) The books are very good so I suppose we should be thankful DF is risking his ass to get the right inspiration.... but it may not be exactly 'getting your priorities straight' - I mean.... DF's ass...books.....DF's ass....books..... Then I've never read his.. never mind ;-)

Sheesh, a week of holidays and I'm out of control ;-)

Here birdie birdie, come into my garden and let me give you some food and you can give me ... erm .. a newsletter? Maybe ? Perhaps if I leave some apple ?

>>By spiketheprovo   (Monday, 27 Nov 2006 18:17)

See it pays to feed ! Anyone tried a peanut string yet ? Btw he is good .. as always!
Thank you Duncan and R

>>By Ninjawoman   (Monday, 27 Nov 2006 22:58)

Good to hear he's still around yes and seeming to be 'complete'

DF says: "I was asked if I would carry out a very sensitive assignment in Moscow. I could not refuse when I heard the details and left the next day for Paris to get my visa. Unfortunately I can’t reveal anything about my visit but it was closely related to recent topics in the news from that region."

Uhuh? There were the deaths of Anna Politkovskaya and of course Alexander Litvinenko. What other news was there??

>>By Lynn   (Monday, 27 Nov 2006 23:53)

Perhaps he is making sure that the vodka is up to standerd ?? After all, now that there is a new ( and may I add a very sexy ) James Bond there is to be expected that the vodka martini's will sell better then ever before. Since the recent deaths that are linked to bad vodka ..... who knows ! Just be patient and all will be come clearer in a few years .. after he typed and published all his other projects.

Thanx Meee - nice one. It does seem a (cute) struggle to DF?? He (still) doesn't seem too comfortable doing this. Love the last line.

BREAKING NEWS, to me anyway .

"The Protector out today"

and a newsletter

>>By Rikky   (Monday, 5 Mar 2007 17:26)

Ignominious reputation? He's just very very quick to arrive at the crime scene. It should be praised! ;-)

>>By Lynn   (Monday, 5 Mar 2007 23:10)

PS..a friend just ask me to ask DF to stay the hell out of Iran and North Korea. Just to be on the safe side.

>>By Lynn   (Monday, 5 Mar 2007 23:42)

Got my copy of 'The Protector', noticed it is dedicated to 'Ricky', wonder who that is?

>>By camban   (Wednesday, 7 Mar 2007 11:39)

Have you finished it yet Camban ? And how is the book ? Please do share ...

>>By Ninjawoman   (Thursday, 8 Mar 2007 09:10)

Not finished it yet Ninj, only two chapters in, scene setting stuff, different to his previous work, no Stratton, first chapter slightly lame I thought, rescuing a Tornado pilot who apparently flew into the ground but is still alive and mobile? No navigator either?? But I like it so far.

>>By camban   (Thursday, 8 Mar 2007 11:39)

No Stratton ? Why bother then ? ;-)

You are an enigma Camban. First chapter lame and then a pilot with no navigator and yet you like it ?
It puzzles me and untill you will tell me more, I will be saving all my pennies for my own copy.
Did anyone else knew it would come out this week ? Was caught off guard on this end, but a very good surprise !

Maybe more people can share their reviews here? ( duhu it is a discussion board )

>>By Ninjawoman   (Friday, 9 Mar 2007 09:29)

Tornado slams into ground without navigator . Puzzle solved

>>By Rikky   (Friday, 9 Mar 2007 11:29)

Sorry to be enigmatic Ninj, what I should have said is that it's good apart from those points, and it gets better, OK?

Very funny Rikky!!
