Discussion: Donna Leon

donna leon captures the essence of venice. Her characters come to life! The question is, Paola? - who is she based on, Donna herself perhaps?

am going to venice in june and having great fun looking up her locations on the street map

long may she continue to write

Leon's Commisario Brunetti is a great character. Although a devoted servant of the government, he is at the same time skeptical of its processes; although eager to see "justice" done, he is realistic about what may be possible in the real world within which he operates. And, though he takes his professional role seriously, he truly values his time away from work--with his family and with the classics. And in the background, we have those wonderful vignettes of Venice and its people.
