Discussion: Don Dellilo

White Noise was like a decadent piece of cheese cake that was ment to be savored. It is the type of book you have to nibble on in order to acheive a full understanding of where Dellilo is coming from. He taps into areas of emotion that aren't generally tapped in to. He takes enjoyment in the detials. I continue to pick up White Noise and reread the chapter where Wilder cried. I find it compulsive. There is this sort of melencholy, somber waterfall that flows through that chapter. I feel unexplainably cleansed when I read it.

I find DeLillo's writing to spark a new perception in me that i think that we all have but choose to store away for those boring moments when there is nothing else to do. That is to notice the things that we rarely put effort forth to notice, and in doing this it has made me smile at simple normalties that have no great meaning or purpose but that do just that, kind of make you think to yourself and smile.

The poetic repetition at the end of the book keeps me coming back for more and more. I loved Jack's plan: "Here is my plan ... Locate Mr. Grey ... shoot him three times in the viscera section for maximum pain, etc..."
Wonderful postmodern comedy--the kind of writing that will transcend its author and live on in history. A truely engaging critique of the popular culture-television-media-consumerist-conspiracy theory metanarrative, and recomended reading for anyone whose toilet-room-library is in need of a good book.
