Discussion: Dan Simmons

While I urge any and every sci-fi fan to pick up a copy of Dan Simmon's Hyperion and its sequel for mind-blowing adventure, imagination, and incredible writing, I would also urge any and everyone to burn their copies of the last two books in the series, Endymion and the Rise of Endymion. If you don't, steal these books from your book store and then burn them.
The last two books of the series constitute the biggest choke in sci-fi history.

I've read and reread the hyperion quartet a handful of times, but it wasn't until this last semester that i convinced a friend to read the shebang. He flipped and since has consumed every bit of dan simmons literature that i didn't get around to (which all things considered isn't much). Ignore the other comment, Endymion and its sequel are perhaps better tales, fleshing out and personalizing the myth that is the world created by one of scifi's most talented authors.
Don't believe me? Read them yourself. Lose your mind with the scope of Ilium. The ramifications of the farcaster destruction, or the heart break that is Raul's story. Song of Kali, Hollow Man, you think it, this author has probably expounded on it.

although not much of a scifi fan, Simmons Hyperion series was great. I mean it's been years since I've read any of the books, but I still find myself thinking about them occassionally.
