Discussion: Chinua Achebe

Chinua Achebe is a very good Pan Africanist,he potrays very well the African setting.I enjoyed his book "Things Fall Apart" and its continuation of "No longer at Ease".I didn't like the main protagonist Obi Okonkwo disappointing his people by falling victim of corruption. It was absurd.

Okonkwo's fall reminded me of Greek tragedies. He had the tragic flaw of considering himself quite powerful and not weak at all. However, he proved to be the weakest with his committing suicide.

Mostly I agree with Monica, though I don't think that Obi falling victim to corruption was absurd I think that all too frequently this is the reality. Reading more of Achebe is well worthwhile eg "the Anthills of Savannah'

I loved the book "Things Fall Apart." I had to read it for english class, and I loved it. I finished the book before the class. There were parts that I didn't get, but then I reread it.
