C. S. Friedman's books are fantastic, particularly the Coldfire Trilogy. The way that Friedman laces traditional straight fantasy with intoxicating philosophical undertones is an effect I've never seen in any other series, and the result is an addicting trilogy of books.

I'm young, and into games. When I see a fantasy novel, I base it by comparing it to other fantasy situations. I've only read Black Sun Rising, but by my standards it is an outstanding fantasy novel. The magic system, as I like to call it, is pretty unique. Magic isn't some sorcerous mystery, its a nearly tangible thing, Fae. This is just one twist that keeps this from being another "Arthur gets Grail" storyline.
