Discussion: Beryl Markham

The lesson in life for me is that despite all the talents that Beryl exhibited, her bravery, beauty and talent (?) she died a lonely and forgotton person. Is that a reflection of her own life or that of societies inability to accept ability for what its worth throughout one's lifespan ?

I think you mischaracterizing Beryl when you say that she died forgotten. Wind with the Night was republished in 1983 to great acclaim, and among of the annoyances of her last years were all the people who visited her because of the book. Her loniness was real enough, but I think that was rooted in her personality. Beryl was a remarkable woman, and like all of us, she was imperfect. Her behavior drove a lot of people away.
