Discussion: Bernhard Schlink

good author (i have only read one of his novels - The Reader) but i think that most of the emotion was lost in the traslation, because i feel it was very short and not as emotive as it could be. Actually i don't really know what i'm talking about but it asked me to post a comment, so i did!!!

A great novel, I found three interesting themes. First a story of twisted love. Second a reflection on morality and guilt, can it be collective? Third, if you read deeply and follow the clues, it is a story of a serial molester who does pennance in a most unusual way.

the reader was great. punchy prose stripped to the bone. no pretence. understated. reminds me a bit of coetzee.
