So happy to come across this site. Even more to read so much about Arturo's great works. This should not be of any surprise though. I remember listening to his first words, read aloud by him in person, way back in 1973!!! Very talented he was already. Great guy, friendly, enthousiastic, intelligent, charismatic, spontaneous, generous, communicative... Smart, sharp, very sharp! Hated the day he poured ink all over my blouse though, but when it dried out invisible I realized it was only one of his jokes! So glad and so very proud of his success. WOW, he really made it! Among his books I read, I loved ''The nautical chart'' and ''The fencing master''. Impatient now to read ''La reina del sur''. I congratulate and thank him so much for taking us readers so deep into his fantastic world. Can't think about Spain without remembering Arturo!

going to happen next, he keeps you guessing as to what's going on right now much

A P-R is the spanish author with more readers in his country and all over the world. In spain, The Captain Alatriste series (a swashbuckling story of a Soldier of Fortune of the Spanish XVII century, when that country had the most powerful empire of al the human History (and that empire started to hurl down) is a literary phenomenon that just can be comparised with Harry Potter in the UK.

P-R is the great author of adventure novel of nowdays. an inheritor of the swashbuckling writers, of the XIX century, and the sea adventures writers too (Melville, Conrad...)

I read somewhere that "a book that cannot be re-read isnt worth reading once", and i am completely agreed with that phrase, cause if the book is not important to you or doesnt thrill you, you are loosing a precious time reading it. well, i must to say that most of P-R books (overall Alatriste novels and some other as The Club Dumas) is worth to read it according to that aphorisme.

what i like of P-R: his love for the truth (or hate for lies, is the same), his humility, what he thinks about the importance of education and reading, the democracy and human rights; his fight against obscurantism and liers; the defense that he makes against stupid literary critics of the great adventure story tellers (Dumas, Stevenson....), and the adventure novels genre in general...(sometimes sadly despised (why?) by some critics).

what i dislike: the rough and foul-mouthed tone of his weekly articles in the spanish press (not the reasons he deffends in that: im completely agree with them most of times).
