I read Awareness a couple of times few years back. This is a book that can really change ones life. It had a daunting effect on me. The book made me laugh aloud, it made me cry for happiness. Reading it, I felt completely free from the chains of our society. Still, I tend to slip back to my original programming. The more you struggle, the more it hurts...

I read this book about 8 years ego. It was amazing and it would change my life if I follow the path, which was described there. When I managed to convince myself, that I can be happy without something I desire then I could cope without it. When I convinced myself and believed that all my feeling are the projection of my mind, then I was full of calm and happiness, which I have never felt before. I'm pretty sure it was the begining of the state of awareness. But this state of mind was very unstable and never lasted longer then a day. And the more I tried the harder it was to repeat it. I touched the heaven and went away, because my way of thinking was wrong from the basis. But what you said normind makes me hope, that it is possible to follow that path. Although it's so different from all other paths.

It is just as you described, Ril. It is easy to feel awake for the first time. Then you slip back, feel miserable again, and begin to _want_ it to happen again. Thus, the awareness has become just another drug. I believe in awareness, but I couldn't be much farer from it myself. Life of wants and desires is mostly really painful. But as De Mello says, you should not change anything - instead, just observe keeping distance to yourself. Once you've done that, the rest is easy. What ever happens, it is really not that important. Perhaps if I start each day with his words, this will be easier to remember.

I am reading Anthony de Mello (Awareness) and I just can´t describe what I am feeling. Its wonderful. If you can´t remember and use his words, take the book with you, wherever you are.

I have recently spent the last few monthes reading Anthony de Mello, with sections from Song of the Bird, the whole book of Awareness and nearly all of 'The way to love'. I have found his works incredibly fresh, and life giving, but I still feel far away from any sense of a developed opinion. In discussing his thoughts with others, (in as much as is possible to dip in and out or flirt with what seems almost like a systematic science of related insights, that strengthen one another) I come across alot of resistance and mistrust. I guess one must be 'broken down' by Anthony de Mello, before one begins to allow 'his words' to bring life. It is the fact that one almost must be in this velnerable state, to really welcome him with both arms, that troubles me.

As someone once said over coffee, 'when we come across people in our lives who open up something beautiful before our eyes, maybe it is possible to engage too much in that experience. Someday we will find ourselves agreeing too readingly with that form of experince. Our guru will say, God is an orange, and we will reply, yes yes, that is soo true. . .

Am I being stupid?
Does anyone understand that?
