Wow, not very many comments on this writer. I read "House of Sand and Fog" and thought it was incredible how he told the story from 2 points of view, switching back and forth from the voice of a male Iranian immigrant and an American woman. I rented the movie a week later and was glad I'd read the book first. The movie is faithful to the book--except for the conclusion, and I won't give either away--but watching it, you don't get the details and background information about the characters as you do in the book. I was especially impressed with Dubus's descriptions of the Colonel's life in Iran and of their customs and beliefs. If you haven't read this book, I highly recommend it-- before you rent the film.
